Renishaw wins two prestigious awards at leading international event
Renishaw receives awards for 'Best quality control product and tooling system'
Two MWP Awards
At the prestigious MWP Awards Dinner held in Birmingham, UK, on 22nd April, Renishaw plc was honoured with two awards for product excellence. The awards, which are often referred to as the UK metalworking industry’s ‘Oscars’, were achieved against strong competition, with entry open to any worldwide manufacturer with a UK representative. Winners were selected by a panel of eleven independent judges allied to manufacturing industry.
Best quality control and tooling system
In the category of 'Best tooling product, equipment or system', sponsored by Yamazaki Mazak UK, Renishaw’s TRS2 tool recognition system was judged outright winner, whilst in the category ‘Best quality control product or system’, sponsored by Hardinge Machine tools, the REVO® five-axis measuring system came away with the top award against entries from other metrology companies, including Hexagon Metrology and Faro.
TRS2 is a laser-based system for CNC machine tools, used to detect broken tools during automated machining operations, and was described by judges as "A boon to unmanned operation; crammed with technology to provide accurate and consistent operation under hostile conditions". (The award was collected by Ben Merrifield, Technical Manager for non-contact products - see image right).
The REVO® measuring system is bringing remarkable time reductions for component inspection on co-ordinate measuring machines, and was summarised by the judging panel as an "Absolutely brilliant idea, which speeds the measurement of complex component shapes.”
Commenting on the awards, Renishaw’s company spokesperson, Chris Pockett, said, “To receive these awards for product excellence was an outstanding achievement, especially as we faced entries from many other world class suppliers to manufacturing industry. There is tremendous pride amongst the many employees who have contributed to the development and marketing of these winning products.”
Renishaw sponsors 'Best R&D Project'
Renishaw also sponsored the 'Best Research & Development Project', which was won by Austrian company LMT Boehlerit, for its new Nanolock tool coating product. Renishaw’s Chairman & Chief Executive Sir David McMurtry (far right) presented the award and received an especially warm welcome on stage from the 800-strong audience.
Now in their twenty sixth year, the MWP Awards are organised by Metalworking Production Magazine, and are supported by the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA). Entries are judged by a panel comprising editors from leading manufacturing publications, academics who work closely with manufacturing industry, and senior engineering executives from industry who have responsibility for the selection and specification of manufacturing technologies.
