Metal part casting – technical service

Renishaw provide a casting service in non-ferrous metals, such as brass, aluminium and low melting point alloys. We can also provide multiple wax masters produced using our vacuum casting systems. It only takes a matter of days to go from master model to investment cast metal parts. The process is particularly well suited for thin wall, complex geometries and delivers a high quality surface finish similar to a pressure die casting.

Metal casting process:

  • Master part creation - usually using stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing from a virtual model.
  • A silicone mould is formed around the master part.
  • Now a wax master can be cast using the silicon mould and a vacuum casting system, multiples can easily be produced.
  • The wax master is encapsulated in ceramic and burnt out to create the mould for metal casting.
  • A metal part is cast using the mould, then the ceramic is removed.
