The linear encoder version of RESOLUTE is available with a comprehensive range of scale options, listed below. RESOLUTE is also available with rotary (angle) absolute encoder options.

RESOLUTE supports a variety of serial communications protocols of both 'open' and 'proprietary' types, to enable connection to a wide range of industry-standard controllers.

RESOLUTE absolute linear encoder on FASTRACK™ RTLA tape scale

RESOLUTE™ absolute encoder with FASTRACK™ linear absolute scaleTypical accuracy graph for FASTRACK™ linear encoder scaleFASTRACK is a revolutionary track-mounted linear encoder scale system from Renishaw that combines ±5 µm/m accuracy with the ruggedness of stainless steel, and the quick and easy installation of a carrier-type encoder system.

Furthermore, FASTRACK enables rapid removal and replacement of scale, even with limited access, making it ideal for large machines that are sectioned for transport to their final installation, or for axes that are exposed to potential damage.

Designed for applications that demand high accuracy and easily removable scale, the FASTRACK scale system consists of two miniature, yet rugged, guide rails. These securely retain Renishaw’s new low-profile scales (8 x 0.2 mm cross-section) and allow them to freely expand at their own thermal expansion coefficient with almost zero hysteresis. Indeed, a centre-clamped 2 metre axis has a sub-micron hysteresis over the entire operating temperature range. If damaged, the scale can be pulled out of the guide rails and quickly replaced, even where access is limited, thus reducing machine downtime.

Maximum scale length is currently 10 metres.

RESOLUTE absolute linear encoder on RSLA high-accuracy stainless steel scale

RESOLUTE™ absolute optical encoder with RSLA absolute linear scaleTypical RESOLUTE™ RSLA absolute optical encoder accuracy graphRSLA spar scale provides the performance of a fine pitch encoder system yet retains all of the benefits RESOLUTE. RSLA scale is available in defined lengths up to 10 m with an overall accuracy better than ±4 μm on 5 m lengths – an industry first! The system comprises the RESOLUTE readhead and 30 μm pitch RSLA stainless steel scale, which features the unique single-track absolute graduations that combine absolute position data and phase information in one code. With low SDE and jitter, advanced optical detection scheme, resolution to 1 nm and simple installation, RSLA is perfect for long travel applications where metrology cannot be compromised.

Manufactured from special composition stainless steel, RSLA has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 10.8 μm/m/°C and provides a high resistance to corrosion. RSLA is as accurate as fine pitch glass scale yet is as easy to use as a tape scale; it can be coiled for simple storage and handling yet once uncoiled behaves as a spar scale. The robust scale offers a much smaller cross section than typical glass scales, allowing easier handling and installation without risk of breakage.

RESOLUTE absolute linear encoder on RELA high-accuracy Invar scale

RESOLUTE™ absolute optical encoder with RELA absolute linear scaleTypical RESOLUTE™ RELA absolute encoder accuracy graphFor those applications requiring very high accuracy combined with “zero” thermal expansion coefficient, RESOLUTE can be used with RELA absolute linear scale, manufactured from Invar - a low expansion nickel/iron alloy.

Thanks to Renishaw’s unique and ultra-precise graduation process, RELA spars achieve guaranteed accuracy of ±1 µm on lengths up to 1 m; a specification that is individually certified and calibrated against International Standards.

Invar has a thermal expansion coefficient of approximately 0.6 µm/m/°C over the temperature range of 0°C to 30°C. To enable advanced users to compensate for even this small effect, the exact CTE for each individual spar is determined and stated on the calibration certificate.

In addition to its very low expansion coefficient, Invar also features superior robustness. This permits a much smaller cross section than fragile glass scale, whilst allowing easier handling and installation, without risk of breakage.
