The angle (rotary) encoder version of RESOLUTE is available with a comprehensive range of scale options. RESOLUTE is also available with linear absolute encoder options. RESOLUTE supports a variety of serial communications protocols of both 'open' and 'proprietary' types, to enable connection to a wide range of industry-standard controllers. RESOLUTE absolute rotary (angle) encoder on RESA rings
The unique single-track format of the scale incorporates the absolute position data and phase information in one single code, which combined with RESOLUTE’s advanced optical detection scheme provides far wider installation tolerances than traditional multi-track absolute encoders. The RESA offers impressive accuracy with resolution to 0.00075 arc second, while RESOLUTE readheads feature low SDE and low jitter, making this encoder system suitable for the most demanding precision applications. For high-speed applications, RESOLUTE is capable of speeds up to 36,000 rev/min, even with 27 bit resolution. This unique combination of speed and motion control capability make RESOLUTE particularly well suited to applications, such as high-performance lathes, which need high speed for turning operations, very smooth velocity and solid positional stability for precise C-axis contouring and orientation. Ruggedness is assured by Renishaw’s ground-breaking new RESOLUTE encoder; it has high tolerance to dirt, scratches and greasy fingerprints that can cause other encoder systems to miscount. The low profile RESA, with large internal diameter, is easy to design into most installations. Equally important, its low mass, low inertia design does not compromise system performance. Like the RESA, the REXA stainless steel ring has absolute graduations marked directly onto the periphery. However, it features a thicker cross-section to minimise all installation errors except eccentricity, which is easily corrected using dual RESOLUTE readheads. Once the dual readheads have eliminated the effects of eccentricity, the only errors remaining are graduation and sub-divisional error (SDE) both of which are very small. When REXA is used with dual RESOLUTE readheads, it is possible to achieve a total installed accuracy of better than ±1 arc second. A 183 mm REXM ring with dual readheads can typically achieve a total installed accuracy of below ±0.25 arc seconds. As a non-contact system, REXA rings are directly locked to the rotor, eliminating coupling losses, oscillation, shaft torsion and other hysteresis errors that plague enclosed encoders.
