Machine performance manuals and trainingRenishaw has developed a range of training courses to help you exploit the full potential of your Renishaw systems. Renishaw recognises that training requirements vary according to territory and industry, and as a result provides a variety of training options.

These range from standard courses at Renishaw facilities, to training on customer's sites and even tailoring the content to meet your specific needs. The emphasis is always on practical, hands-on tuition.

The laser (XL-80 and ML10) and ballbar (QC20-W and QC10) training sections outline the typical course content covered in the training sessions held at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge, UK. The content covered by other subsidiaries may vary from office to office.

Training in UK

Renishaw is established in all major markets, with appointed distributors for other key areas around the globe. Should any questions arise, skilled personnel are ready to provide service and support. Training sessions take place in a dedicated lecture room as well as on a selection of modern machine tools in the adjacent demonstration rooms.

XL-80 and ML10 laser training courses

Demo areaNotes are provided to assist you during the courses for the laser system measurement and data capture training courses and, in conjunction with the specialist help and guidance offered by your course tutor, will:

  • Familiarise you with the components of linear data capture
  • Explain how to plan a linear test
  • Allow you to understand the different software modes
  • Teach you how to align optics
  • Linear measurement and data capture
    • How to use the compensation function
  • Angular measurement and data capture
  • Straightness measurement and data capture
  • Rotary measurement and data capture

QC20-W and QC10 ballbar training courses

The following areas are covered to assist you during the Renishaw ballbar training course and, in conjunction with the specialist help and guidance offered by your course tutor, will:

  • Familiarise you with the components of the Renishaw ballbar system
  • Explain how to plan a ballbar test
  • Explain the effects of temperature
  • Explain machine axis conventions
  • Allow you to understand the different software modes
  • Teaches you how to use the 'Configuration mode'
  • Teaches you how to use the 'Advanced mode'

Course objectives

  • To provide you with the skills and confidence necessary to perform any measurement data capture on a chosen machine using either a Renishaw XL-80 or ML10 laser system or a QC20-W or QC10 ballbar.
  • To allow you to practice setting up optics and ballbar components to capture data and provide feedback.
  • To provide initial support and coaching to allow you to adapt these new skills to the workplace.

Training in USA

ML10 training in the USARenishaw offers North American customers two basic machine metrology classes focussing either on the laser measurement (XL-80 and ML10) or ballbar (QC20-W and QC10) systems.

The classes last four days and cover the following general topics:

  • The 21 degress of freedom
  • Accuracy and environment
  • Relative thermal behaviour
  • Machine geometry and design
  • Determining relative errors
  • Interpreting analysis data
  • Troubleshooting set-up and machine errors
  • Machine tool part programs
  • Hardware set-up and data capture
  • Correcting errors on the machine
  • Software

In addition the the general course material, each class covers the following product specific subjects:

Laser

  • Laser interferometry theory
  • Laser kit parts identification
  • Current laser technology
  • Linear, angular and straightness measurements
  • Cosine, deadpath and Abbé errors
  • Error compensation
  • Using the laser as a diagnostic tool
  • Implementing maintenance programs
  • Accessories for the laser

Ballbar

  • Why buy a ballbar?
  • When to use a ballbar
  • Ballbar theory
  • Ballbar kit parts identification
